In the first Career Episode, the author describes the activities that he performed as a Geotechnical Engineer for M/s AMEC Kuwait project management & contracting company.

The name of the project was “Enhancement to Substations and Control Rooms at S&EK GC’s, BS’s NTF and STF Kuwait” and his roles and responsibilities were:

• In the initial phase of the project, do a field study and obtain all necessary information on the local situation and geology.
• To conduct several laboratory tests and investigate slit trenching and utility surveying.
• To investigate the subsurface environment, including groundwater and soil.
• To do a static loading foundation analysis.
• Analyze the results and provide considerations for the construction of the foundation.
• To perform chemical attack on buried concrete and given conclusions.

Project Name: Soil Improvement of Weak Soil at Jaber Al Ahmed City Site

In the second Career Episode, the author demonstrates the technical skills that he used while performing the project as a geotechnical engineer under the public authority for housing welfare, state of Kuwait.

The project was entitled as “Soil Improvement of Weak Soil at Jaber Al Ahmed City Site” and the responsibilities of the author were:

• To conduct a literature review on a variety of themes relating to the improvement of weak soil.
• Using a variety of methodologies, determine the acceptance criteria for soil improvement.
• To prepare and verify the original design for dynamic replacement, dynamic compaction, and ironing pass.
• To select the materials and equipment that will be required for the project.
• To perform the execution of excavation, dynamic replacement, dynamic compaction, and back filling method.

Project Name: Construction of Landfill facilities for Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soil (Group-B) in NK Area

In the third Career Episode, the author describes the project he was involved in from January 2014 to January 2015 entitled as “Construction of Landfill facilities for Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soil (Group-B) in NK Area” where he occupied the position of Geotechnical Engineer. His key responsibilities were:

• To visit the building site and sketch out a plan, as well as develop a methodology for carrying out the work efficiently.
• Review the approved design documents and perform the necessary earthwork to create a surface that meets the project’s requirements.
• To generate a construction quality assurance report that includes daily site activities and construction material information.
• To conduct a series of tests to ensure the quality of the materials used on the job site.
• Examine the geo membrane’s shipment and placement to check that the installations were completed according to plan.
• To assist with the test of the electrical leak finding and the preparation of a complete report to be given to the organization.
